Sydney saxophonist Andrew Brooks and Perth based sound manipulator Kynan Tan come together as Té to release Circuitous. Well regarded for their releases on the Listen/Hear Collective label (Tan’s Raetina and Brooks’ work with Melbourne based jazz outfit Motion), this album is their first as a duo, coming together in Berlin during individual extended stays in the German capital, and follows a recording made at hellosQuare’s Abstraktions series in July 2012 that was released as a limited run CDR for their Japanese tour earlier this year.
Recorded while overseas and waiting in the wings for just over a year, this talented Australian duo create a world of deep sound, founded on a base of acoustic instrumentation (the aformentioned saxophone along with gongs and percussion) and rewired with live processes. Touching on elements of noise music as well as improvised jazz and glitch electronics in it’s aural palette, Circuitous is a must for lovers of musique concrete and dark ambient/doom drone.
Circuitous will be released in a limited edition run of 150 grey vinyl LPs, housed in sleeves letterpressed at Dexterity Press, Chicago. Available from hellosQuare.
