Abstract Causation is an audio-visual work that is a speculative and poetic imagining of the ways data is accessed and visualised, feeding into and structuring experience, and then collapsing back into binary and being erased. The work deals with ideas of the dual materiality and ephemerality of data – how we have a conflicted relation with digital systems and the ways data informs and conditions our lives. Attempting to avoid representation, the work instead thinks of algorithmic systems as an assemblage of entities that come together to produce new transductions of data, making sensory the conditions and processes of computation.
